Allergies

Are allergies making your life miserable?

Wish they would go away?

An allergy is defined as an inappropriate or exaggerated reaction of the immune system to substances that, in the majority of people, causes no symptoms. These substances are called allergens.

What Are the Symptoms of Allergies

When we think of allergies, most of us think of the common reactions:

  • Sneezing
  • Coughing
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Runny nose
  • Itchy eyes
  • Hives
  • Skin Redness and/or swelling
  • Itching
  • Red, watery eyes
  • Tickle sensation in the throat

But allergies can also be the root cause for a wide range of other ailments not usually associated with allergies.

Undiagnosed allergies can affect every system and organ in the body and result in conditions such as:

  • Fatigue
  • Headaches/Migraines
  • Nausea
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Hyperactivity
  • Immune disorders
  • Anxiety and/or Depression
  • Brain fog
  • Skin problems
  • Bladder infections
  • Irritability
  • Etc.

What Causes Allergies?

Just about any substance can cause an allergic reaction.  They are broken down by category or type of allergen.

These include:

  • Inhalants – Elements that are breathed in through the respiratory tract
  • Ingestants – Allergen enters the body through the digestive tract such as foods, drinks, medications, vitamins, etc.
  • Contactants – Allergen enters the body through touching.  Examples, clothing, cosmetics, skin creams, furniture, books, work materials, plastics, utensils, bed linens, shampoo, soap, detergents, fabric softeners, toys, etc.
  • Injectants – Allergens are injected in the skin, muscles, joints, or blood vessels in the form of serums, antitoxins, vaccines, immunizations, insect bites, animal bites, and drugs.
  • Infectant – Allergens that produce their effect by causing a sensitivity to an infectious agent, such as bacteria
  • Physical Agents – Sensitive people can react to various physical agents like cold, heat, radiation, etc.
  • Molds & Fungi – These can be introduced to the body through a variety of avenues including ingested, inhaled, touched, or injected as in the case of penicillin.

What can be done to combat allergies?

The conventional medical approach consists of one or more of these strategies:

  • Complete avoidance of the allergen which is not always practical or possible
  • Drugs to temporarily cover up the symptoms
  • Decongestants, antihistamines, Benedryl, Claritin, or Zyrtec
  • Drugs to temporarily stop the symptoms from occurring.  These usually have to be taken daily, either year round or during certain “allergy” seasons
  • Allergy shots over a period of time, often up to several years.  Allergy shots have mixed reviews on their effectiveness and  usually require weekly visits to a doctor and the use of needles to inject the offending substances with the hopes that the body will develop an immunity to that allergen.

Today there is a  natural alternative treatment for allergies, NAET. This natural technique actually reprograms the body to reduce or eliminate allergic reactions.

NAET, which does not use scratch testing, needles, shots, or drugs. It is a safe and effective allergy treatment for people of all ages, including infants, children, the elderly and pregnant women.

Since 1993, as a certified NAET practitioner at the Whole Life Health Center in Lawrenceville, located in the heart of Gwinnett, Dr. Alexander has successfully treated hundreds of people with a wide range of allergies. Many of these allergies were so severe that they radically impacted the patient’s quality of life and limited their activities or their food choices. In some cases these people were unable to eat in restaurants for fear of coming in contact with a substance they were allergic to.

See What Our Patients Have to Say About NAET

I am amazed at the positive results of my NAET treatments.  My allergies to shellfish, especially shrimp, had become so severe it had become a risk to even dine out due the danger of things even being cooked in the same proximity.  Following my treatments I have now been able to not only dine without fear of a reaction, but to even enjoy eating shrimp myself. —The additional treatments for other allergens have dramatically improved by overall quality of life.  Thank you Dr. Alexander.

For the past 5 years, I have not been able to eat any dairy food.  Eating dairy caused my mouth to breakout in painful ulcers.  After receiving the calcium balance I am able to eat any dairy food I want.  I am so grateful not have those horrible ulcers that would last up to 2 weeks.

My daughter started NAET treatments when she was 15 months old.  She was having chronic sinus infections and a runny nose constantly.  Her doctor had just given her an allergy medicine to take every day.  I didn’t want to give her drugs daily for the rest of her life. After 6 weeks of treatments, she no longer had a runny nose and could stop taking her allergy medication.  We continued with her treatments and now at 3 ½ year old, she is a very healthy little girl.  We still continue to watch for the things that bother so we can take care of them immediately.

“I have been an allergy sufferer all of my life. Although nutrition has helped, I still got headaches, migraines & simply felt awful in the spring.  I usually needed a round of steroids to get me through March & April.  After being treated by Dr. Alexander, I sailed through the spring with no issues whatsoever.  I even put myself & NAET treatments to a test by going for a run when the pollen counts were 7,000+.  Again, I had no problems whatsoever. I expected a headache by evening and a migraine by the next morning.  I had neither.  Wish I had known about Dr. Alexander & NAET years ago!  Thankful my two boys can be treated at a younger age & not suffer for years as I have done.  Thank you Dr. Alexander!”

Other Thoughts About Allergies

Confirm it’s allergies:

Many confuse the symptoms of a cold or virus with seasonal allergies. Here are some clues: congestion lasts for more than two weeks, eyes, nose, and the top of your mouth itch, mucus is thin and clear, and symptoms can get worse after exposure to triggers (ex. yard work). The absence of fever and aches is another clue it’s probably allergies and not a cold.

Take allergy symptoms seriously:

Allergies can affect the trachea and the lungs, causing shortness of breath, chest congestion, wheezing and asthma. Allergies can even turn into an infection, and when severe, cause fever and headaches.

Stress plays a role to allergies:

According to studies from the Ohio State University Medical Center, stress doesn’t cause allergies, but it sure worsens the symptoms due to increased cortisol (stress hormone) levels coursing through the body and weakening the immune system’s ability to ward off allergy-triggering proteins

Treatment side effects:

Conventional therapies call for antihistamines, decongestants, oral steroids, and corticosteroid sprays, bronchodilator inhaler, and allergy injections. All of these just treat the symptoms and many have unpleasant side effects.

Treat the Cause, Not the Symptoms:
Treatment does not need to include medications that make you feel tired and foggy. NAET is an all natural, alternative that addresses the cause and not just the symptoms.

Use Salt Water:
Use a saline nasal rinse such as a Neti Pot which helps clear allergens like pollen from your nasal membranes. Gargling with salt water can soothe a sore or scratchy throat. Do these remedies once or twice a day to ease congestion.

Remove shoes and work clothes as soon as you get home:
Keep outside pollen, dirt and dust outside by not dragging these toxins throughout your home.

Shower at night:
Showering at night will wash off any lingering pollen from your body and hair before you get into bed.

Pets:
Wipe your pets’ paws and fur when they enter your home too, since pollen can cling to them.

Whole Foods:
Eating healthy can boost the immune system that can protect you from seasonal allergies (ex. reducing dairy and eating more fruits and vegetables).

Other Effective Remedies:  A growing number of allergy sufferers are finding relief from drug-free approaches such as Chiropractic adjustments and Acupuncture and NAET. (For more info on NAET, call us.)
